Stop Scratching Irritated Skin

Grrrr, it itches, it itches! When you have itchy skin the temptation to scratch kills you! Learn how to control the scratching!


Steps
  1. Find out what the irritation is.
  2. Keep the area uncovered by clothing as clothing scratches skin continuously.
  3. When you feel the need to scratch, put ice or cold water over the irritated area.
  4. Pat the area dry with a clean towel.
  5. If you feel the need to scratch again, don't think about it. Do other things that involve movement: sports, dancing, or anything else.
  6. If the need to scratch is overwhelming, scratch really hard for half a second.



Tips
  • If you can, cover the irritated area with a band aid.
  • If the itching persists, see a dermatologist.



Warnings
  • If your doctor said not to scratch, just don't do it. Use cold water or don't think about it, but don't use the half-a-second scratch method.
  • Don't do anything you doctor said not to do.
