Combat Cellulite

Beauty therapist Sarah Chapman shows you how to get rid of cellulite, a common skin problem which as yet has no permanent cure.

Steps
  1. What is cellulite? Cellulite affects 80% of women and is caused by factors such as poor diet and lack of exercise. It is the accumulation of toxins and fatty deposits that get trapped in the fat cells and pull on the surface of the skin.
  2. Drink water Drinking water flushes out toxins, so you should drink 2 litres of water a day. It also helps the body to function more efficiently, helping with circulation and drainage.
  3. Lifestyle To reduce cellulite drink less coffee, alcohol, and reduce the levels of fat in your diet, Try to exercise regularly and drink plenty of water.
  4. Dry body brushing Use a dry body bristle brush which can be bought from a chemist or pharmacy. Start at your feet and massage your whole body working upwards towards the heart. Massage your body with deep, long strokes, focusing on the areas prone to cellulite.

Tips
  • The most common suggestion to reduce cellulite is to reduce fat. Although rarely it is reported that cellulite appears worse after weight loss, perhaps because of the leftover weakend skin.
  • Laser treatments are the most effective way to combat cellulite, but they're usually very expensive. However, they're worth every penny of it. You can get one at any good beauty salon.
  • There are specific types of exercises effective in reducing cellulite. Ask your fitness trainer which are they and how to do them.
  • Don't wear too tight clothes, for they're also a factor that contributes to getting cellulite.
  • Remember that even some skinny women have cellulite. It's not a matter of weight, but one of lifestyle and health. If you're skinny, don't automatically assume you will never have cellulite; instead, try to prevent it by leading a healthy, active lifestyle.
  • Using an effective anti-cellulite lotion over 2 months can significantly improve the aspect of the affected areas. Apply it two times a day for best results.
  • The best way to combat cellulite is to use all methods simultaneously- diet, exercising, massage, lotions, and laser treatment.
  • Search the Internet for speciality sites and forums, preferrably from your country. There you can find women who have tested more methods and/or creams and can say if they work.
  • Consult your dermatologist. Ask him which are the most effective creams in reducing cellulite. Surely he knows better.
  • Coffee grounds are very effective in cellulite reduction. It is said to work better than anything, and is even used in body wrap salons. Here is one recipe...all things from home! Those expensive cellulite creams have one ingredient in common: caffeine! You can make your own cellulite treatment with caffeinated coffee grounds that works beautifully. Here’s how:
    • Put some newspaper on the floor of your bathroom.
    • Mix about a quarter-cup of warm used coffee grounds with a tablespoon or so of olive oil. The used grounds work better if they’re warm.
    • Stand on the paper and apply the coffee mixture to your cellulite areas using your hands or a loofah mitt. Don’t worry if a lot of the coffee mixture falls to the floor; enough will stick to your skin to do the trick.
    • Wrap the area in plastic wrap and allow to remain on for several minutes.
    • Remove wrap and brush off excess coffee mixture. Shower with warm water. This procedure is most effective when repeated twice a week.
  • Research the internet for other recipes. One uses coffee grounds, salt, sugar and honey. There are many out there, and they are very inexpensive.

Warnings
  • Don't overdo anti-cellulite massage, otherwise your skin could lose its firmness and elasticity.
  • Don't waste your money on over the counter creams. Most of them are not effective and none are FDA approved.
