Is £2400 justifiable to charge to fix ONE tooth?
My dads broken one of his front teeth, and his dentist has quoted him this much for fixing it, which isn't much work either. His dentist also commented on him 'not having much jaw bone at the back' for some extra work and quoted him £5000 for one more tooth at the back. So that's £7400 for 2 teeth.

Our dentists are a rip off. Now you yanks wonder why we have bad teeth - here's your answer!!!

Thats NOT for gold teeth, thats all our dentists fleecing us for all the money they can get their hands on.

Each dentist has different fees for dental work.If your dads tooth needs a root canal, post&core build up and a crown. This fee is resonable.Concidering this is a front tooth he may want to have that one taken care of and have a partial made for the back teeth this may be more cost effective. If you think about it you use your teeth every day all day.Its one of the more important investments you can make.It always amazes me that people will pay thousands of dollars for a car they will use for a few years but they wont invest that money in their teeth.Once youve gotten the decay taken care of and restored, with good hygene and check ups you can maintain a healthy mouth and not have to worry about having no teeth when your older and not being able to eat.I have come in contact with many older people that have told me they wish they would have taken care of their teeth when they were younger.

Sorry guys, but as I'm a dental nurse, i have to defend my fellow workers and say it's not the dentist who actually decides how much to charge a patient, that my friends is down to our Government and our local primary care trusts, bear in mind the government and the local PCT will only set the fee's for our NHS dentists and this sadly leaves the back door wide open for the private dentists to charge exactly what they like!.
£2400 is very steep and the work cannot be carried out on the nhs as the most you'd pay on the nhs is £194, no more, no less.
As the local PCT now fund and pay for NHS dental surgeries to operate, it may be worth getting in contact with them and explain your dad's situation, they should be able to give you details of any nhs dentist in your area who have nhs appointments available.

It does sound a bit pricey
With the back tooth it sound like the treatment maybe a bone grafting, an implant and maybe a bridge if he has more than one tooth missing there, which can be quite expensive and complicated, as for the front tooth if that is for a crown that is rather expensive as your father to go back to the dentist and ask exactly what he proposing to do and as for a printed treatment plan

I quite understand. I have the dilemma of having to pay £1000 to correct some work my dentist did some time ago which failed! I think they do it on purpose to get you back and dip your bank account. Private dental care is an absolute rip off.

God no !!! That's highway robbery. Ring NHS Direct on 08454647 and ask for their health information service. They will help your Dad access NHS care and be able to advise him of other dentists in your area.
Good Luck

Gee, I'm wondering if the teeth are gold. I'd go toothless at that price. Do all dentists charge that much there?

£2400 is the going rate if he needs an implant. ie a titanium screw into the jaw bone to completely replace the tooth with a false crown on it.

These are private charges so shop around for a better quote.

go to another dentist....get another quote...or find a NHS dentist,it may not be in your area but its worth the drive...no?

Ammo
Wow for that price I would want them done in gold!! That's digusting and an absolute rip off

I paid £70 for some dental work recently. Last year it cost me £65 to have a wisdom tooth with a twisted root removed. I think your dentist is over charging your dad.
