Is a deep hole normal that traps food after wisdom tooth extraction?

Yep it's normal... Don't worry it will shrink away over time =)

P.S.

Never heard of ANYONE getting stitches in thier gums after having teeth pulled.

holistic_warrior
Normally, they put in stitches where the tooth was, so NO, it's not normal to have a deep hole there.

Yup. But it usually closes within 24 hours.
Be sure no food rests are left behind when that happens or you will have unexplainable bad breath, and even get an infection from the rotting food.

Go back to yur dentist - because you don't want that hole to close up with the rotted food still in it and get all infected

yes, especially if they had to go under your gums to extract your tooth.

yeah, i had a really big one after i got all four of mine out at the same time, make sure to rinse your mouth after eating so you don't get an infection or something equally as nasty. it will heal over in time. good luck

xx

p.s. i did get stiches in mine... pulled them all out myself, my boyfriend got the dissovable ones though. lucky.......

YUP ITS NORMAL
DON'T LET THE FOOD SIT THERE YOU WILL GET AN INFECTION. SOMETIMES THE DENTIST GIVE A LITTLE SYRINGE THAT YOU CAN USE TO WASH IT OUT.

Yeah...mine lasted for something like a month. Totally normal and totally annoying.

joe_smo_red
yes.
you know how i know you're not taking your pain killers? b/c you worry about stupid crap like this. pop a couple of those pills and let all of your worries like holes in your mouth, your herpes outbreak, your girlfriend being a stripper drift away.

i remember having this problem, it went away eventually, made my breath smell like butt for a few days

It depends on how recently you had the tooth pulled. You should always avoid getting food near the extraction site for the first day or so. If it has already been days since you had the tooth pulled and it is still not healing, you should call your dentist.
When a tooth is pulled, a blood clot forms...if that blood clot becomes dislodged, you could end up with a dry socket which is very painful!
