Stop Picking on Your Scabs

Picking scabs is a hard habit to break, especially if you are bored or worried. Wounds also itch as part of the healing process. You need to think about why you pick them that will also help you break the habit.

Steps
  1. Start at the root cause of the problem -- the cut. As soon as you obtain a cut or graze, clean it up with an antiseptic wipe and put a bandage over it to protect it whilst it heals.
  2. Try rubbing moisturizer into a scab as it heals. Scabs feel tight and itchy as they heal, and moisturizer can help to relieve this. The little skin massage that comes with applying moisturizer will also increase circulation and help it to heal properly.
  3. Replace your habit with another less destructive one, like twiddling your hair between your fingers or doodling. Read a book or try juggling, try a puzzle, anything!

Tips
  • Cut your nails short! This will make it harder to pick without noticing.
  • Think of the scar that will form if you keep picking that scab. If you picture a massive ugly scar everytime you reach for a scab, you'll soon get the idea of picking scabs out of your head.

Warnings
  • Constant picking of scabs increases the likelyhood of infection and scars.
