Live Without Text Messaging

In today's technological world, cell phones have leaped to new heights with text messaging, picture messaging, and even video messaging. It seems as though in just about every class it is a guarantee that you will spot at least two students text messaging someone outside of class. The problem is that text messaging can be expensive and addicting. If you're looking to cut out the text messaging addiction, follow these steps.

Steps
  1. Call your service provider. They can prohibit your phone from text messaging and block any messages you might receive as well. This will get you started.
  2. Try to become less phone-dependent overall; this will lessen your need to text, call or send pictures. By suppressing your phone feelings, you will stimulate other important aspects in your life which will lead to a healthier lifestyle.
  3. If you have buddies that feel like they can not get ahold of you now that you are not text messaging, tell them to call you instead. Actually verbally talking improves relationships and creates a healthier relationship at that. It's a win win for both you and your friends.
  4. Avoid stupid mistakes. If you do not wish to cancel text messaging due to emergency situations or something of that nature, then be smart with your text messaging. If you're on your computer at home and you are on aol instant messenger while your buddy who is also online on the messenger texts you, stop and reevaluate what just happened and don't let it happen again.

Tips
  • Give out your home phone number more often. This will help make you less cell phone minded.
  • Stay patient. As much as you will want to text and communicate a lot of pointless messages during the day, you are just doing your self financial and psychological damage.
  • You can write fake text messages on your phone, but don't send them. Then, you can call the person instead and tell them what you wrote.

Warnings
  • In the most extreme cases you may wish to throw out your phone, light it on fire, stomp on it, or destroy it in some manner. (DO NOT LIGHT THE BATTERY ON FIRE BECAUSE IT WILL EXPLODE.)
