Quit Watching TV

Most people love watching TV. Have you ever seen someone who is completely obsessed with his boob tube. Occasional shows are fitting into families more and more to the point they are the only thing the family can do. This tutorial helps viewers enjoy life without spending a minute with the telly.

Steps
  1. First thing's first, admit that the TV isn't helping anything. You may use the news in your argument, but reading the news helps your brain as well as getting the same issues. The majority of your time isn't spent watching news anyway. Chances are your most viewed programs are sitcoms or other entertainment based drool your TV spits out.
  2. Think of what you could have done with that extra time. Most shows are a half-hour long. Whatever it is you do for fun other than TV (or video games. If you are a TV and video gamer, quit both), and work on improving any situation.
  3. Go cold turkey. TV is addictive to some people. If you smoke a pack a day to once a day, you are still feeding nicotine to the addict in you. This is the same idea.
  4. If you are so anti-social that there's nothing beyond TV for you, try writing a show. Most TV critics have no idea how hard it is to make a show that is completely different and successful. You could also just get another hobby that is time consuming and rewarding.
  5. Exercise. Working out makes you feel better while also being healthier. If you spend the time exercising instead of watching Everybody Loves Raymond, you will probably have memories with people instead of shows. Start easy if you are overly out of shape or lazy by walking.
  6. Hang out with friends more often. If you are the anti-social type, get friends. There are plenty of people who would rather get in a circle and discuss why their life is a horror. Chances are it is less believable when they are watching some emo music video on their plasma TV.
  7. Give back to the community. Sounds corny, but doing simple things like donating blood, picking up litter, or just going to a hospital, homeless shelter, or orphanage and keeping the patients company is a more rewarding aspect than not building character.
  8. If you like doing things with your TV-loving family, try to get them to do other stuff with you.
  9. If you usually go to the movies on dates, go to the fair, walk, miniature golf, dinner, protest what you both believe in, or some other idea not directed to movies or TV.
