A mass means a lump of some kind. It could be a cyst or a number of other things.
They will do an ultrasound, blood work up, an internal, and a few other things. As well, they may biopsy it.
Its likely NOT cancerous at her age. So dont panic.

A mass is a tumor it can be malignant (cancer) or benign (non cancerous) She will undergo numerous tests to find out which one it is.... Has she had any tests yet?? My concern is that they are sending her to an oncologist... they specialize in cancer. My thoughts are with you and your family. Hope everything works out for the best.

Some can be very serious, others not as serious. It varies from person to person, so unfortunately, you will have to see how it is for her, as it happens. Best of luck to you all.

The mass may or may not be cancerous. A lot of times they will send you to an oncologist even if they aren't sure it's cancer. It could be serious or it could be nothing at all. They will most likely do an exam, and ultrasound and a scan. Because of her age chances are it's harmless. Best of luck.

Most likely it is a cyst.
Ovarian cancer is very rare in children.
They will most likely do an ultasound, this will determine if the mass is filled with fluid or if it is solid.
They will most likely do a biopsy, with a small needle take a sample of the mass.

They may choose to do an MRI for better images.

It is most likely a cyst, which is not preventable and will pretty much heal themselves.
