There is a right and wrong way to use a band-aid. It is important to keep it sterile while placing it on a wound. This means that fingers should not touch the pad of the band-aid, but only the sticky part.


Steps

1. Open the box of band-aids and check out the sizes. Pull out the correct size for the wound or cut. The cloth part, should not be smaller than the cut, but can be larger. Remove the wrapped band-aid from the box. Tear off the paper covering.
2. Grab the ends of the band-aid with two fingers of one hand on one and two fingers of the other hand to separate the sticky ends. Make sure not to touch the cloth part.
3. Place the band-aid above the wound. Your fingers should still be on the ends of the plastic coverings. It should be about 1 inch above the wound. Lean your pinkie on your hand, to get leverage if necessary.
4. Pull the plastic coverings to the sides. At the same time, pull the band-aid down. Make sure not to touch the wound.

Tips

• There are many types of band-aids. Get the one that suits you the best.
• Keep band-aids where you will know where they are and be able to get easily. You should keep some handy at all times in case someone gets cut.
• Buy band-aids with antiseptic on them, to keep the wound sterile.

Warnings

• Do not touch the cloth part of the band-aid. Germs could get on it, then into the wound.
• Do not touch the wound, germs could get in it.
