Remove a Splinter Without Tweezers, Squeezing, or Pain
|
Children (and many adults) often regard the removal of a splinter with terror. Here is an easy, painless way to remove a splinter. This method will even work to remove a deeply embedded glass shard. Steps
- Wash your hands.
- Irrigate the affected area with a liquid antiseptic such as Betadine, or just wash the affected area.
- Make a paste using water and about 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
- Put this paste on a bandage and apply the bandage to the affected area.
- After 24 hours, remove the bandage and rinse the area. The splinter will be sticking out of the skin and you or the child will be able to remove it easily.
- If you are not near a source of water lick where the splinter is and pull it out with your fingers
Tips
- If you are removing a splinter from a child, reduce their fear of further injury by letting them wash the area and remove the splinter by themselves (if they are old enough to do so).
- For more deeply embedded splinters, you might need to repeat the above steps more than once
