Asthma Inhaler Assistance??
I am a 35 yr old and I've had asthma all my life. Lately, my asthma has been waking me up out of my sleep, my chest gets tight and I CANNOT breathe!, the wheezing starts, and my lungs hurt. Long story short. I have NO Health Insurance but I'm in need of an inhaler BAD. Primatene mist makes it worse, it fills my lungs with some kind of clear stuff and when I cough, I sound like a walrus! Please help me with relevant info. I just need an inhaler BAD, I jump up out of my sleep because I can't take a deep breath. Anyone know of where I can just get an inhaler???

SERIOUS RESPONSES ONLY please.

if you ever listen to anything anyone ever tells you this should be it.... NEVER NEVER NEVER USE PRIMATINE MIST OR ANYOTHER OTC INHALER. THEY ARE THE DEVIL! THEY WILL WRECK HAVOC ON YOUR LUNGS AND ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! any local health dept can help you, if need be, sounds like you do need medical attention. its my understanding an emergency room can NOT turn you away, they must treat you. They will bill you. but see a health dept or local clinic. I'm sure there's help out there for you.

actually the inhalers i get are only 16.95 each.. so they aren`t out of reach.. primatine mist is bad for asthma.. get yourself a real inhaler..and yes they have generics for these inhalers.. different companies..go to the doctor and get a prescription.. sometimes doctors have samples to give out.. just make sure you let them know you do not have health insurance..

Sorry, Bro, but inhalers must be prescribed. You will need to get a prescription from a doctor or nurse practicioner, which means an ER or office visit. Don't know of any other way to tell you. Sorry!

Firstly, what is your peak flow reading? If you are waking up then you need to start taking a preventative inhaler. You also need a reliever. Asthma does kill, so I would encourage you to see a doctor as soon as possible. I know that with the US medical system, that is going to be really difficult. Check out the American Asthma association, they may be able to get you some financial help. Below are a couple of website that do inhalers in the US. You are going to need something like salbutamol as a reliever (that's what you take when you are having an asthma attack) and Becotide or beclomethasone as a preventer.

I'm an asthmatic and a nurse. If you would like any more help, feel free to email me with specific questions and I'll answer as best I can. The other thought I had was getting involved in drug trials. That way you could get free medication and a free check up. Hope that helps.
Emma
