About dry month after radiation treatment, can anyone help me?

Country Girl
Oral balance DRY-MOUTH moisturizing liquid drops, Biotene mouthwash, toothpaste. Anything that is sugar-free, gum or hard candy. Just stay away mouthwash with alcohol.

You can use saliva substitues. You can get these over the counter from your pharmacy. Or ask your pharmacist or health worker.

I recommend ice chips, mints, lifesavers, sips of water, and any other hard candies you like.

Go to a drugstore and look for Biotene products. They make a mouthwash, toothpaste, and I believe other items (although I only used the two I listed). These are really great at replenishing the dryness in your mouth.

Other options: Trident sugarless gum (or any sugarless gum) is a great one to try. Not only does the chewing gum stimulate saliva production, it also has something in it that protects you....please read...

When sugars and carbohydrates are broken down by plaque bacteria in your mouth, they produce plaque acids. These acids can eat away at the enamel on your teeth. This can promote tooth decay and eventually cause cavities. Unlike sugar, Xylitol is not broken down by plaque bacteria. Because it does not break down, Xylitol can help keep a neutral pH balance in your mouth, which helps protect your teeth from tooth decay.

In several studies, scientists have found that people who regularly chew gum that contains Xylitol have a lower occurrence of tooth decay than people who do not chew gum that contains Xylitol (2, 3, and 4) . Chewing gum that contains Xylitol has been shown, when chewed 5 times per day, to reduce plaque, and make it easier to remove plaque when brushing

I got this from the Trident website. When your mouth is dry, you are very prone to cavities and infections, so whatever you can do to avoid it is great.

EDIT TO ADD: I forgot to mention that if you begin to get mouth sores as a result of dry mouth, you can get a prescription from your doctor to swish with. I can't remember what it was-it had 3 different ingredients in it-anyone know? A pain reliever was one of them....

Good luck.
