Test Your Blood Sugar

This is for all those recently diagnosed diabetics out there, who don't know how to test there blood sugar levels. Well if that's you or if your just interested then read on...


Steps
  1. Take your test strips out and place one in your glucose meter.
  2. Look at the screen to check that the number displayed is the same as the code on the packet of strips.
  3. Take your lancets out and place one in your lancing device with the dial set to your preference (See Tips)
  4. Pull back the end, freely-moving section of the device and press the opposite end to your finger (See Tips)
  5. Press the button that releases the lancet. You have just pierced your skin so squeeze it to draw a little of your blood out.
  6. Apply the blood to the thin colored end of the test strip. Your glucose levels will show on the screen.
  7. Dispose of your lancet and test strip carefully in a medical box (you can keep them in a safe place until you visit your doctors were you can hand them in).

Warnings
  • Contact your medical provider or diabetes educator for further information.
  • Never inject insulin if you do not require it. It can kill.
  • Never use a lancet that has been used by another person.
