Overcome a Fear of Needles
|
Scared of getting that shot? You can get rid of that fear of needles. Steps
- Don't think about it a lot; just count down in your head or think of something you're looking forward to.
- Just go for it and let them do it without any tears or sobs from you, you don't want to be there any longer than you have to.
- Do not watch them put the needle in you, you will forget all about thinking of good things!
- Just remind yourself that you are bigger than this and that it is going to help you, not hurt you.
- Remember to relax, look away, count from 100 to 1, when you are distracted you are not thinking about the needle and by the time you reach one you will be ready to leave.
- If none of this works tell the doctor and you may have a serious phobia (enetophobia) if you ever faint, get dizzy, or throw up from the sight or thought of needles you should recommend talking to a psychologist or a coach
Tips
- Breathe in and out.
- Relax.
- Bring something to do or read
- Don't look, it will make you move.
Warnings
- Don't move around and wail while the phlebotomist (the person who puts the needle in you) tries to inject you.. you're making it harder for them, and it may be harder on you if the needle moves around or misses the spot.
