Having a scoliosis brace can be tough, but the clothes you wear and the attitude you carry can help your brace appear less noticable. Steps
- Wear things that draw attention away from your midsection. You can try sweatshirts, sweaters, and other things that cover the three straps on the back.
- Wear looser-fitting pants. Although you might enjoy your tight jeans, they only draw attention to the plastic that stops in the middle of your backside. With looser pants, it's not so noticeable.
- Remember that your attitude matters. If you walk around slouching with a frown on your face, people are more likely to notice something and not want to be around you. However, if you smile and talk to people, they're more likely to overlook your brace.
- Make sure the shirt that you are wearing does not droop down at the top of the sleeve (if it's a short sleeve shirt). You may be able to see the brace on one side.
- Wear the brace as much as possible in a routine (i.e. always durring school). This will prevent people from thinking you gained or lost a couple pounds.
Tips
- Make sure the velcro straps aren't sticking out.
Warnings
- Don't wear tight-fitting sweaters/sweatshirts. It defeats the purpose.
