Shop at a Drugstore

We all know finding that large pack of paper towels and bottle of vitamins for a low price brings forth satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment. Heading to your local drugstore, whether it be Brooks Pharmacy, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Pharmaprix or Boots can prove very beneficial if you know how to effectively shop at a drugstore.

Steps
  1. Browse the weekly circular before leaving your house in search of that bargain. Drugstore circulars are included in most major Sunday newspapers.
  2. Match any manufacturer coupons with the sales in the circular.
  3. Arrive at the drugstore near the beginning of the week, preferably Sunday, the start of the new ad week, to avoid out-of-stocks and rain check hassles.
  4. Locate the items you wish to buy, paying careful attention to product size and variety. Many sale items consist of an ad tag in front to better assist the customer in finding the sales.
  5. Head to the checkout with your bargains and prepare for that wonderful feeling of money-saving!

Tips
  • If an item is out-of-stock, do not lose your temper with the employees. Many stores do not have individual input in the shipment of products from the warehouse.
  • Generic versions of products have the same formulations as the brand names and can save you a lot of money every day, not just when a particular item goes on sale. So don't be deceived by the glossy ads--you may do better in some cases to shop generic and pay a lower regular price than you would pay after a coupon on a name-brand item.
  • Some drugstore chains require you to bring in coupons from their circular in order to qualify for particular discounts (either in addition to or without store loyalty card) so make sure you bring the coupons.
  • Sign up for the loyalty card if your favorite store offers one. Then, if you forget it later, mention to the cashier that you have one at home. Often they will extend the discount to you in the absence of your card.

Warnings
  • Some drugstore chains require the use of a store loyalty card in order for sale prices to ring up at the register.
