What could cause a person to cough day and night?
I have taken her to several doctors but they can't find the problem. They all recommend she see an ENT specialist.
Well have you tried going to more than one doctor, it can be bronchitis but i hope not good luck.

Asthma, post-nasal drip, and acid reflux are the most common culprits. Pulmonologists are the specialists in this. I had a lot of coughing for awhile, was better, now I'm coughing again. I suspect allergies in my case. It's so annoying and it can cause problems. I hope they can get to the bottom of it for you.

The person may just have a dry spot in their throat. Try drinking tea with 2 table spoons of honey. Honey sooths the throat, you can even drink 1 to 2 ounces and see if that helps. Lemons are also know to help singers with their vocal cords, try eating cut up lemons.

can be allergy in nature, from dust, from fumes, from pollens

Lusia is wrong, #1 sign of lung cancer is non-productive cough. You should go and see the ENT the causes of cough are nearly endless form psychogenic coughing to viral pneumonia. There is a chance that the recurrent laryngeal nerve is being stimulated from esophagitis, aortic coartation....in other words no one on this answer board will know. It is probably not lung cancer since your risk of lung cancer if not a smoker is nearly zero. If you are a smoker stop, you are litterally putting your child at risk of diseases that they would have no risk otherwise.

I would definately seek another professional ~ someone such as pulmonary ~

You're sick. See an ENT specialist instead of asking random strangers.
