Can you have a hairline fracture and not know you've got it?
About four weeks ago, I said that my arm was swollen and it felt bruised, well it's still like this and someone said that it might be a hairline fracture.
Can you have a hairline fracture and still move your arm and stuff. The only pain I have is when I put weight through it or try and pick something up.
My wrist throbs as well now, which it wasn't doing before.
I'm planning on going to the A&E department tomorrow.
Just wanted some advice before I go.
yes you can and many times it won't show up on X-ray so it will be treated symptomatically. Do what makes sense, if it hurts don't use it, use ice if that works for you, mild over the counter anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen help as well

Thats possible but usually a hairline fracture would heal with in four weeks but if it hasn't been mobilized than yes it's a defenite possibility.

Yes you can, the fact that you have left it so long to get it xrayed and plastered if necessary is not very good either, the bone will have started knitting together already, I hope you won't have to have it re-broken and stuff...

uh no, you would notice a slight fracture. my mother broke her toe, she had a hairline fracture and it really hurt her.

Yes you definitely can, in fact people occasionally manage to walk around on broken legs in that way. Granted, it is usually that sort of person who doesn't like doctors and is always insistent they are healthy even when everyone else is shouting at them to get things sorted out. But arms are a bit different to legs, and you could probably get by a lot longer thinking you didn't want to bother a Dr, or that it might get better. You are most certainly being sensible to go and get it checked out.

In an adult, bones are strong and usually require a lot of violence to break. Because they need a lot of violence, they usually break nastily...particularly in the arm! It is not a site known for hairline fractures (metatarsals/ scaphoids are more typical sites).
However you should seek medical advice to exclude any other problems....

yes you can have a hairline fracture and not know it. I walked around for 4 weeks with one ankle broken and the other with a hairline fracture and didn't know it. what's worse is I never knew how i broke them. So it's best to get it checked out, hope you don't have too long to wait in A&E.
