Finding your way in a dark room, might not be difficult if you are in your own room. Being familiar with where your furniture is, and in what direction your door is with regards to the bed, is easy. But have you ever slept over someone else's house, and need to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. This presents a problem because you are not used to your surroundings in a strange setting. Steps
- Stand up and do not move for a few minutes until you get a sense of where you are and where the door is located. That is where you want to go, if you need the bathroom.
- Squint your eyes for a few minutes to get used to seeing in the dark. Put your hands out in front of you, moving them right and left ever so slightly so to feel any furniture that is either in front or on the sides of you.
- Take small steps, feeling the ground with your toes so that you do not step on something hard and hurt your foot.
- Remember that in a little while your eyes will get used to seeing in the dark, and the room will become easier to walk in.
Tips
- Keep a small flashlight with you when sleeping over at a house other than your own. Keep the light on the night table next to you before going to sleep. Reach for it when you have to get up during the night, and walk safely and see your way around.
