What is the max time for eye dilation before you should worry about going to the Emergency Room?
My son had his eyes dilateded and everything I found related to this says 4-6 hours. I has been a little longer than that.

When I have MINE dilated, it usually lasts for a good 10 hours.....I wear SUNGLASSES the entire time to protect them from the HUGELY larger amount of light that gets in from the enlarged pupils......

The most common method of dilation employed typically lasts 4-6 hours. Some people require more time to recover. If your son is a child, stronger drops may have been employed which can last 24 hours. I use these on children frequently in order to establish a more accurate prescription. If his pupils are not reacting to light ( opening and closing) by the next day, call the eye doctor. A trip to the ER shouldn't be warranted.

Unless he in pain he should be OK. Before you go the ER, call the doctor who dilated his eyes and see if this is normal. No reason to waste an ER trip even if you have insurance.

sweetheart you should worry usually a dilation of an eye midriasis is the medical term usually is related to neurological problems so is very important the evaluation of a medical professional.

is very important

Though the bottle literature insert will say 4-6 hours. It really varies from person to person and the amount of dilating drops that were put in.

A little longer than 6 hours is not too worrisome. As was already mentioned, it can be as long as 10 to 18 hours depending on the amount and type of dilating drops that were used.

Pharmacologic dilation is completely reversible. Not unless Atropine eye drops were used, the effects of the dilating drops should disappear by the following day.
