High eye pressures .... what other signs ...?
I have high eye pressures (22/24 by the blue light test) and I am not due to go back to the Optomatrist until Nov. I know that I will need to see an Opthamologist at that point as well but I have a question. Are there any other signs I need to watch for with regards to Glaucoma? My Gma is basically blind from it and my Dad has it and he's 60. Here are some of the symptoms that I have .... pain, pressure, watering, bluriness,I get headaches that feel like they are starting from my eyes, floaters and sometimes spots.
Thank you in advance for your input!

Tell your Optometrist and ask him to refer you to an Ophthalmologist right away.

I would go ahead and make an appointment to see them sooner. All of the symptoms you listed sound right on for a diagnosis of Glaucoma. Glaucoma can cause serious damage to your eye. The optomatrist should be able to prescribe you something to help lower your intraocular pressure

There is no point in going back to the optometrist again. You need to go ahead and make an appointment with an opthalmologist. I am sure that he or she will then want to see you every 3 to 4 months. You need to get on meds NOW: You will not be aware of any symptoms. The damage is to the OPTIC NERVE, and by the time you can tell, it is too late. I have had mild ,low pressure glaucoma for 10 years...lower than yours, but I do have optic nerve damage, in spite of constant treatment. Everyone is different. Some people ger optic nerve damage at lower pressures than others. The headaches are probably not related to glaucoma. Floaters are annoying, but also unrelated. Watery eyes is more likey due to allergies or rosecea...also a common condition which affects the eyes and causes blurriness. GET THEE TO AN OPTHALMOLOGIST NOW! Be organised, write down all symptoms so he-she can evaluate them. There is NOTHING the optometrist can do except tell you you still have high pressure and need to go to the opthalmologist. Opthalmologist should check your pressures 3 or 4 times on the SAME day to see how it varies during the day. I am dead serious about this. My mother had it too. I am an R.N. and a glaucoma patient. Please take care of this promptly. Also, try to find an opthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma...look at their ads, ask around, call and ask their offices. I wish the best for you.

wow. some bad answers here, even by health professionals.

22/24 pressure DOES NOT warrant an immediate ANYTHING.

22/24 pressure DOES NOT EVER cause pain, pressure or watering, floaters, spots or headaches. to get "pain" you'd have to be over about 40mmHg, not 22. probably more like 60mmHg before MOST people would have symptoms from "high pressure". 22/24 may be too high for you, but it *IS NOT* causing your symptoms.

no patient in the history of medicine has had "pain" from a pressure of 24.

a pressure of 22/24 means...you need further testing. it DOES NOT mean that you "must" see an ophthalmologist "right away". this does not warrant panicking. it only warrants further testing, hence the follow-up appointment. your appointment in nov is FINE.

there are no "other signs" of glaucoma that you can "watch for". thats the problem with glaucoma...by the time the PATIENT notices that they have vision loss, its way too late. with a pressure of 22/24 you're not going to have any symptoms. did you have symptoms before you found out you had borderline high pressures? my bet is that you did not. you certainly didnt have "pain" from high intraocular pressure.

just keep your appointments and read up on it. but dont panic and dont "demand" to bee seen sooner or by an ophthalmologist. both of those are wholly unnecessary at this stage.
