Take heart.. not all cancer is fatal... many people do beat it. I've beaten it for over 13 years.
Cancer happens when abnormal cells don't die properly and they replicate.
I would think that most cancers if left unchecked are capable of metastasis, but I'm not well-versed on that.
I don't like to contradict, but in regards to the comment above, there actually are some cancers that are linked to specific viruses and bacteria.

Not all of them.
Skin cancer (except melanoma) generally spreads locally and does not spread (metastasis) to places not directly in contact.
Lung cancer as ex. can spread just about anywhere; yet the brain is a favorite.

Cancer is cell replication gone mad; like the only function is to reproduce ,destroying every tissue in the way. Hope this very simple description can answer some question you may have.
