shortness of breath at nights and just in sleep?
my father had 2 operations, broken leg now he cannot sleep at nights at all, as soon as he is sleeping he wakes up because of shortness of breath.. he doesnt have this problem during the day so he can sleep fine in the day. but at nights nooo

it sounds like sleep apnea to me. ask if he has: chest pain, heart burn or a sour taste during the night, a slight swelling of the legs, excessive sleepiness during the day, loud snoring or louder then usual, night time choking or gasping for air, or coughing frequently those are the signs of it. if he has any of those he should see a doctor right away because sleep apnea can be deadly.

woody
Could be sleep apnoea, could also be asthma, brought on by the anasthetic during these operations. If he is coughing with it during the night, I would go with asthma. He needs to see a doctor again, it could even be a blood clot after operations. If he sleeps ok during the day, maybe it is nightmares? Keep him warmer at night, put a light in his room, and see if this changes anything.

Jasin
Could be sleep apnea. Better have a sleep study done.
