How to stop Snoring Please Help?

I've been there myself - my wife would regularly end up on the couch, or be absolutely wiped out, while I was fresh as a daisy. Your snoring may sometimes make you stop your breathing totally, which is worse than just snoring, as it will also affect your health, causing you sleepless nights. I tried things like sprays and nose clips - they really don't do much as far as I could tell. The British Orthodontic Society say there are very few clinically proven ways to stop snoring: - Surgery - CPAP (breathing pressurised air) - Lower jaw advancement You can read their full article here: www.bos.org.uk/orthodonticsandyou/adukltorthodontics/snoringandsleepapnoea.htm Surgery is good, but expensive, and painful for weeks, and it quite often is only temporary. CPAP is the gold standard - you have a mask and breathe pressurised air from a pump beside the bed. Its effective but a lot of people really cannot stand sleeping with a mask, or being tethered to a machine. Jaw advancement is the best way to start looking for a solution. By holding the lower jaw forwards, it also holds the tongue away from the back of the mouth, opening up the airway. Jaw advancement is done by what is a bit like a gumshield, but designed so the bottom jaw is pushed forward, typically 4-5mm. Jaw advancement works immediately, but the first few weeks can be pretty uncomfortable, because your jaw muscles and teeth have to get used to it. But once you are through the first few weeks, its the easiest solution to snoring to live with, that actually stops snoring. I get mine from www.snoremenders.co.uk - they have some more info on their How It Works page, describing how jaw advancement works.

Hey I had the same problem and it nearly ruined my relationship. The threat of that made me get it sorted before that happened. Happily i did sort it out. At first i was advised to get some medication but that does not treat the underlying causes. The main cause is a block in your airways - when your airways are blocked, the air has trouble getting into your lungs... and as it passes the narrow tissue, it starts "flapping" back and forth, like a flag in the wind, which causes the loud snoring sound. However snoring has a few causes and what may be causing one person's snoring is not the cause of another’s snoring. For example, smoking and heavy alcohol intake can cause snoring. Drinking a lot then falling asleep, certain muscles in the throat are over relaxed and you get the snoring effect. There are natural methods that can sort out all the causes by using exercises based around the throat mouth and jaw. I did it myself so if want to check out the info on the website in the source below it’ll really help you out. http://www.endofsnoringnow.info Good Luck

Snoring IS dangerous to your long term health as it severely affects your breathing and sleep patterns. I'm a sleep therapist and people spend thousands to get help from my company locally. If you just can't find the help close to you then you are best off using one of the sleeping pills like melatrol or looking into a natural cure. Many people are surprised to learn how easy it is to "learn" not to snore. By simply laying one way with a certain kind of pillow or for some a crazy looking but comfortable sleep device can work wonders. I always refer people to the site below for help with sleep in general - hope it helps Michael S.

Well, there are many problems that cause a person to snore in the first place. A few are sinus's, deviated septum, or even (I can't remember the proper name for it, but its a condition that makes you snore because the air passage leading to the lungs gets pinched when laying down. Can even cause death while sleeping [Rarely]) But, the most common case in sinus's. Try buying some Vick's Breathe-Right strips. They clear your sinus's while you sleep. [They sure work for me :)] But, to be honest, there is nothing wrong with soring.M Millions of people do it and it is perfectly normal.
