Should an idividual with schizoprenia drink alcohol ?
My friend is on 3 different medications for schizoprenia and he still drinks alcohol. he says its okay. I think that it isn't because he acts real weird every time that he drinks. Should he or shouldn't he be drinking ?

No he shouldn't be drinking, it could worsen his condition. I had an uncle who had schizophrenia and he always used to dirnk as well, i think it's just a way of trying to deal with what they have. But anyway, if you cant personally stop him drinking, then you should consult someone, maybe a local doctor ?

Sora
NO! Lecture your friend! 1) alcohol makes your emotions stronger, when a schizophrenic drinks alcohol the damage can be much worse! 2) medication is a hell for your liver, don't make it worse with alcohol. Has he even read his information leaflet?! You can't tell me three kinds of medication say: oh, what the hell, drink alcohol. These arn't pills for a headache, they are for a serious problem! Those medicines have a direct influence on your hormones. That's pretty dangerous! I'm pretty sure one of those three medications is anti depressives. And I know how those information leaflets are. They do not recommend it. At all. Hell yeah he should act weird, it would be weird if he would be a 'normal' drunk. If I were you I'd push him to stop drinking, or consider a intake. Having him hospitalized isn't such a wrong idea I guess.....

no he should not be drinking with that medication. It is unsafe. Just as with alot of medications. i.e. depression and anxiety meds. I think all mental health medications are not to be taken with alcohol.

Steven
he's not.
