Figure out why you're depressed and solve the problem from there.

saint johns wort takes 6mths to start working but has been proven to work better than prozac. Prozac was derived from the plant. Exercise too, which builds chemicals to defeat depression....most importantly is kill all negative thoughts and avoid negative things like new paper artilces. it produces chemicals in the body to make depression worst in people with a family history...finally know someone loves you. Try church if you never had. I thought they were money hungry hoes until recently.

one day at a time. I have been suffering with it for 9 years

First, you have to find out what kind of depression you have -- transitory, or inherited. Then you see a physician who knows how to treat it. SRI's (seritonin reuptake inhibitors) really do quite well with most types of depressions, but you must stay in contact with your physician and give the drug or drugs a fair trial. Sometimes one will work, sometimes it will work for awhile, and then you must switch, sometime one will work as part of a "cocktail" of two. Successfully treating depression requires not only the skill of your physician, but of your own imput on how it is working and is continuing to work.

i don't diagnose myslef as depressed, but i do admit that i do feel depressed sometimes...i don't have much signs or symptoms and if i do they aren't really long term.....well so far they haven't been....

I try to go for a walk sometimes to help clear my head. I'm a viaul person sometimes i draw out how im feeling or i write poetry reflecting my emotions.....

I did have a couple of episodes when i did feel suicidal and it was hard to deal with. I tell myself if i feel like dying now so bad, i'll wait until another day or two before i attempt to die.....I've never actually attempted, but that how i actually got thru that...tell myslef to live a couple of days or weeks and see what happens.

I do have a counsellor, i see her approx 3 times in 2 months. I have to admit that its hard to talk about suicide, its not easy to talk about. But i do talk about being depressed.

A pair of pliers and a blowtorch. You know what to do.

You should try meditation. If you are mildly depressed, from everyday stuff this might help. There are lots of websites that tell you how and give you great suggestions. Sometimes you just need to completely relax and it gives you a new view on life.

depression usually includes professional counseling, medications, and family education. A combination of these treatments may be needed.A doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health problems (psychiatrist) may be helpful for severe depression or other mental health problems that occur with depression.

Sometimes a stay in the hospital may be needed if the child or teen has suicidal thoughts and is likely to act on them or has other health conditions, such as a long-term disease, an eating disorder, or another mood disorde

Be around other people. Being alone intensifies the depression.

I go for a run or play some soccer.
It also helps to find some of the things that are good about life.
You won't be able to kick the depression completely, but it does help to think about the fact that my family is healthy, I have a job, I have a home, and we have a meal on the table.
If it is severe you might want to check with a specialist. Some forms of depression are caused by imbalances in your brain and can be medically treated. If it can get you out of the darkest moods, it is worth trying.

I've posted a few times already about treatments for depression.

I find the best way to deal with depression, myself, is to spend time with good friends - get outside and enjoy the sunshine (even if you don't enjoy it - just get into the habit) - keeping active and doing things is the key for me.

Diamond in the Rough
Get moving take a walk or find a outside interest, and see a doctor if its not getting any better. Good Luck

You choose differently. Concentrate on the things you want in life. What your doing, if your depressed, is focusing on the things that you dont want, but what you may not realize that is the very reason why you keep seeing the things u dont want surfacing in your life. Its the law of attraction buddy, and if u have bad feelings than u are not in the right track, thats an indication. Give your undivided attention to the things u WANT and imagine feeling what it would be like to have them, eveuntally you will see great change. Also stop eating foods with Monosodium glutamate on the back of the label, also Asparatame, and if you have mercury feelings get them removed immediatntly and go on a detoxification program...all these chemicals are known to cause depression

find people to help u and to listen to u...friends, family, and even third parties like therapists can help you out, if u ask them to

tkquestion
Your question is too brief to answer in depth....

You must first recognize that depression is a disease. As with any disease, the first step is diagnosis. You must have a qualified physician asses your condition and come to an accurate diagnosis. There are many physical as well as mental diseases that mimics depression.

Once you have the diagnosis, the physician will prescribe you either medication, exercises, counseling, or other "things" that will either lesson, cure, or treat the problem.

The worst thing you can do is to try to treat it yourself.

NOT VERY WELL....BUT WITHOUT MEDS....EVERY COUPLE OF HOURS I TALK TO THE DOGS AND TELL THEM OK...WE WILL START THE DAY ALL OVER....THEY LIKE IT .... AND YA JUST KEEP ON TRUCKIN...I DONT KNOW WHY....YOU JUST DEAL WITH IT....KNOWING THERES LOTS OF PPL LIKE YOU OUT THERE SOMEWHERE.....

stitch_fan22
It depends on what your depressed about...if there is a legitimate thing you are depressed about...then you probably won't need meds or anything like that, just some good friends and you'll get through it. If it is clinical depression, see a doc and they may need to put you on medication or therapy or they can find out if something is actually causing the depression

muttsrbest
Talk to your doctor about getting on an antidepressant, also think about therapy. Other ways to handle it is to smile and think positively. I know that it is hard but even a half smile a few times a day will help. Also try to do positive things for yourself, and stay focused on what you need to get done. It takes time to heal but it can be done.

AVOID prolonged naps, overly dark rooms and negative people. The most important of all is try to stay active, it gives you less time to ponder.

when i was younger i was in institutions and on pills and just plain fu*ked up. I did a lot of thinking about my life and how i can not control what other people do. I can just make my life best for me. I try to think the best of every situation. My depression hasn'tbeen too bad in years. A lady told me the other day at the store that she was "to blessed to be depressed!" that made my life time! I know this is cheezy but you have to want it.

I dealt with it by having my doctor check me out and he prescribed PAXIL. The change was miraculous!!! I'm happy most all the time, no adverse side affects that I'm aware of, and no depression. Whatever you do, dont take PROZAC, it'll make you NUTS!!!
Plus I read the book titled THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING by NORMAN VINCENT PEALE. It helps tremendously. I also STUDY, not just read the BIBLE.

By seeking medicial help. Your doctor can get you on the correct med's to help you. Talking about your problems, the things that are causing you to be depresed. Don't spend too much time thinking about the things in life you cant change and try doing positive things in your life.

~carmie~
In some cases with meds or with therapy, either has different results, its best to talk to your doctor about options.
