Ingrown toenail.?
I've had a couple of ingrown toenails in the past but this one is the worst. They usually heal by themselves and/or it's easy for me to pick it out by myself. But this one is really red and has something that looks like a piece of flesh that's connected to the skin surrounding my nail. It's hard to explain but someof you might know what I am talking about. If I go to the doctor, how will they numb it? and will it hurt? how long would it take?

If you go to a doctor they will tell you to soak it every day in warm watter and maybe some epsom salts. If it is infected badly they will give you antibiotics. They cant do anything to fix it immediatly, you just have to wait.

that's bad if it isn't treated you could lose your toe or get sick from infection. they will probly give you a general anesthesia if its not too bad. if they do surgery they will use local depending on how far the toenail has grown inside your toe. Depending on how bad your toe it depends on how long the surgery will take. after that they will give you pain killers and it will also depend on how long it will heal. only a doctor can give you an accurate recovery and care.

i had one removed once- and i'm a COMPLETE baby about pain stuff...especially on the feet!

but...good news! it didn't last long and didn't hurt at all! they use lidocane and insert the needle right in your toe (it's uncomfortable, but not painful). after that, they cut out the part that's ingrown.

you'll be fine, and it'll heal quickly, but you should get it taken care of soon.

U can choose to numb or not, and it is a very fast process. And do see a doctor, as if there is any wound there and not taken care, there may be inflammation.

Sounds like this has been a chronic problem for you. Definitely go see your nearest podiatrist and he/she will take care of it for good. I'd recommend thinking about having the permanent solution done where they anesthetize your toe (numb up your toe) and then take a small sliver of nail from the side that's grown in. Then the doctor will place some chemical to not allow just that ingrown side from growing back. Then you'll never have to deal with the problem ever again. It's really a simple procedure with no down time. All you need to do after this little procedure is to soak the toe everyday and follow-up with the doctor in 10 days to make sure everything is healing up nicely. The only part that hurts is the injection - after that your toe will numb. Even when the numbness wears off, it's just normal throbbing which is easily taken cared of by Advil/Aleve. And oh, the procedure itself takes like 10-15min. Hope this helps!

I had an ingrown toenail removed once. They numb your toe with a needle and then cut out the nail that is grown into your skin. It dont really hurt. I felt them pull it out but it didnt hurt. The only thing that hurt was when I went to take the bandage off at home it was stuck to the place where my nail once was and that hurt.

I have had numerous ingrown toenails in the past that have gotten so bad, that they required a doctor to remove it. That fleshy this you described is a tissue growth, or at least that is what my doctor told me. When they remove the ingrown portion (and i'm not going to lie to you) it is pretty painful. They clean the area and use a numbing agent top numb the skin, then they use a needle to completely numb they entire toe. Thats the hurting part. However it is over fairly quickly and you dont feel anything in that toe for several hours. The procedure itself is pretty quick and you will need to stay off your feet for about two to three days. They will usually remove only a small part of the nail and any new tissue that may have formed. You also cant get the toe wet for a few days, so you will have to shower with your foot hanging out of the tub, or wrap it in such a way that it wont get wet. They will also give you antibiotics and maybe some pain reliever for the first few days, but I doesn't really hurt that much, just a slight throb thats not all that painful. I have procrastinated on this very thing before and i can tell you from experience that it is best to get it over with and have it removed because once its gone, they remove it in such a way that there is a slim chance you will ever get one again.

I do care!
I know what you talking about.

Go to the paodotrist or foot Doctor to get it fixed quickly.
You can just put up with the pain of them digging at it or have a local anaethetic put in around the base of the toe on both sides.
It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to dig down and clean the area out well of puss and what is causing the infection.

It will feel a Hell of a lot better when they have finished. Such relief.
