Are Lymph Nodes related to cancer? If so, how?
I have s swollen lymph node, that keeps getting bigger and severely painful, and I've been doing research about it. In my research though, cancer seems to come up from time to time, and I'm confused to how they are related.

Lymph Nodes are the breeding ground for cancer cells which helps them spread .

for one how old are you, also if you are that worried you shouldnt be on yahoo answers but you should be going to the doctor

special-chemical-x
lymph nodes collect lymph and dead cells. Sometimes cancerous cells will take up residence in a lymph node and continue to grow. They don't start there though.

Once in the lymph system the cancer can move throughout the body.

CAUTION....DANGEROUS MATTER!!!!!!!!

SERIOUSLY GET CHECKED OUT...

i had a swollen lymph node on my neck and it turned out to be CANCER...but i had no symptoms...i was 15, and cancer is more common in your younger yrs. now im still recovering 4 yrs later

so dont take risks.

lymph nodes are important to the immune system cause they basically trap all the bad stuff. they also contain white blood cells which are extremely IMPORTANT wen it comes to fighting diseases.

wen a lymph node is swollen or inflammed it usually only means 2 things ur just sick or YOU'VE GOT CANCER!!!!

btw...wat did ur doc say wen u went to get it checked out?

Lymph nodes can swell for a whole bunch of reasons, including when your body is fighting an infection or cancer.

Just as a side note - Anyone who knows anything about genetics will tell you that you don't actually have any more of your father's genes than you do of your mother's. That's not how things work :)

You can also get swollen lymph nodes from an infection, or from a cat scratch or bite. These can be treated with antibiotics, Have a doctor take a look at it and either he/she will give you antibiotics or you will need an ultrasound and depending on the situation, maybe a biopsy to see what it is.

Kimberly S
"Lymph nodes are found throughout the body, and act as filters or traps for foreign particles and contain white blood cells. Thus they are important in the proper functioning of the immune system.

Lymph nodes also have clinical significance. They become inflamed or enlarged in various conditions, which may range from the trivial, such as a throat infection, to life-threatening conditions such as cancers. "

A swollen lymphnode typically meas an infection. Get it checked out.

It's possible you have mono, which would cause your lymph nodes to swell up to the point that they become painful. It could be a number of other infections which your body is trying to fight off, which it does by producing more white blood cells. The WBCs attack the invading virus or bacteria or whatever foreign agent is active in your body. Lymph nodes and cancer relate mainly through Lymphoma (such as Hodgkin's Disease) Lymphoma is a form of cancer that arises in lymph tissue. That's a little bit of info I know. I hope it helps point you in the right direction with your research.
