My mother's mammogram showed some bumps in one of her breasts. She is scheduled for an ultra sound to determine what it is, but in the meantime can anyone suggest what that might be? Do you think she has cancer? Is it too early to tell? |

Try to relax, many mammograms will show false positives, which is why they do ultrasounds/biopsies to determine if it is cancer or not. |

The other possibility can be a cyst. Which feels like a bump in the breast. Please check out this site. You will not know until the doctor has a chance to study from all angles, but this may help ease your mind.

my mother had the very same thing!!!! and it is too early to tell but i can tell u that my mother had the mass remove and it turned out to be nothing. just normal tissue. She also had kidney cancer about 2 months before that. an ultra sound will tell u more but untill then think of the best!!! |

Due to the tissue that breasts are made of there's quite a few benign things it could be. The human body in general seems to have an odd propensity for disorders that cause lumps and bumps.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much until you know for sure. Even if they are tumors it's not necessarily a bad thing. There are many different kinds of cancer and more than a few of them create benign tumors that can either be left where they are and monitored or removed with little trouble. Generally you only hear the horror stories which is why most people immediately associate such things with bad thoughts when in reality most of the time it turns out to be rather routine stuff that's of no real health risk.

prevention is better than cure. whatever it is, consider your mom lucky for having the lumps discovered. they could just be benign cysts that need not be removed. but better wait for the results of the tests. WIshing you a blessed day, ma'am. =) |

There's obviously the possibility that they are cancerous, but they may not be. There's a large gamut of possible explanations for these bumps. That's why they're doing the ultrasound. Just hang tight, and see what the doctors say about it! |

does she drink a lot of caffiene? i do and it caused a big scare for me - i had to see a specialist at a surgical office and have an ultra sound done- it turned out to just be fiberous tissue due to my excessive caffiene. good luck i hope that is all it is for her too. |
