Grab a couple of friends, and go clubbing. Go out, have fun. Dancing is awesome.. it takes SO much stuff off of your mind :)

WHAT? MEDS? That is by far the worst thing I have ever heard. Do not start taking meds because then the real crazy comes to life because it's not you anymore. What you need to do is find people who are understanding and nonjudgemental. Seriously, you are not crazy, and it's prefectly normal to feel this way. Almost everyone does.

And of course your therapist didn't know anything, she doesn't know you, and everything she says she is basing on what she was taught in school, and you can't teach some things in school like understanding.

Hi, just ride it out until it passes.
Be strong if you can and/by concentrating on the good things that you have to do to be better.
a pschologist can help but it can take a long time, you have to commit to it for the long haul.
Pschologists are experts in the field and should be consulted, as they know more about depression than you and me and can lead you out of the darkness. You have to trust them and commit to it for at least a month to begin to get the benefits.
In the mean time, stay in your comfort zone, dont do stuff that you may not be able to handle. try and eat healthily by eating fresh fruits and juices, lots of vegetables and plenty of water.
In a couple of days you'll wake up feeling better, then its time to start planning how to try to beat it for next time, and try to minimise its impact on your life.
Good on you, good luck. You'll be ok for sure, trust me.

do you know the best thing is you know you have this illness, and i take my hat off for you.....

what i would suggest is going to your local library and getting few books, and biographies of people who have suffered.

also what i would strongly recommend is exorcising, it will make your body produce endorphin and that makes you happy.

good luck and if you needed anyone to talk to please email me

If there's any inpatient mental health center's in your area, find one asap! they will help you tremendously and quickly because sometimes scheduling a normal appointment can take ages, i know, i've been in your shoes and it hurts when you don't know what to do or where to turn. but usually by u checking yourself in they will assess you quickly and get you the right meds, plus you can leave whenevr you want because it's voluntary.

don't listen to the other guy, alcohol is a depressant and will make you worse. Try a new therapist, and maybe some anit-depressants. I am on prozac, it makes a world of difference.

Get busy. Studies have shown that staying busy with any activity will help ease the uncomfortable feelings. It isn't easy.

Depression is often the result of worry. Problems that have not been solved are a primary factor. You can learn how to replace the worry with other thought patterns. Again, it isn't easy, but a lot of creativity is born out of strong emotions. Most of the great art in the world was created during a period like you are going through.

Hang in there. More people care than you know,

Depression is not uncommon and is very treatable - you can see a regular Medical Doctor and they will be able to give you medication for your symptons.

If you prefer to see a therapist - they can give you medication as well - since they specialist in this field - I would feel more comfortable with them as they are familar with the medications, side effects and which would be best for you.

If you therapist isn't helping you - there are loads of others that can help you feel better.

Take care and get some help so you are yourself again :)

Sorry, sweetie. Here is the deal with depression: it is a medical illness caused by an imbalance of chemisclas in the brain. It can certainly be triggered by stressful events like the loss of a loved one, but if it recurs then you have been cured with bad genes and bad luck - you are depression-prone. If therapy does not help it is likely that there is nothing wrong with you psychologically. Does that make sense? You need to see a medical doctor and get yourself on the right kind of medicine for you - an antidepressant.

Go next week. Good luck.

Depression is not a state of mind. It is a serious illness just like any physical illness. I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder/recurring. There are no triggers, it's not due to just having a bad day, it is a real illness that needs to be treated. At 14, you should see your pediatrician first, and tell them what's going on and have them refer you to a psychiatrist, or counselor. They hesitate to give children under 18 antidepressants, but if it's very closely monitored by the doctor, you should be ok.
Also, depending on what state you live in, your counseling sessions, if you choose to have them are confidential, and unless you sign a release, they can't disclose anything to your parents. Please look into this. Depression, even at a young age is not something to make fun of or put off.
I'm a lot older now, and it took years and years to get my depression diagnosed. I know now, that I've suffered from depression my whole life. I wish I'd known at 14 and gotten treatment starting back then. I believe my life would have been a lot different.
Good Luck

Therapists are only as helpful as you let them be. And that is a completely real statement. Find someone you can trust and easily talk to. That will greatly help. And you might want to think about medication...because if it is real depression, it will always come back...it is caused by a lack of the correct brain chemicals in your head.

A.M.
Do you take anti-depressants? Maybe it has something to do with a chemical imbalance?... Mines comes back too. I take Lexapro. But I'm still trying to find a counsolor!

Stephanie, your therapist sucked . . .

Then you need a NEW counselor -- they are all not right for you personally. You may need some medication.
You aren't giving enough information here for us to help a lot -- depressed for no reason or depressed for specific reasons?

I'm having that problem. I am going to start on anti-depressant, because I have noticed an increase in my suicidal tendencies.

Get a psychiatrist for meds, and maybe give therapy a chance to work before quitting. Try a different therapist if you didn't like yours.

I suffer from depression (since the age of 14, now 25)
Unfortunately my doctor put me straight on anti depressants which I'm still trying to get off of.
If you have "depression" then it will never completely go away it can re surface now and then so you need to know how to handle it when or if it does.
I think you should retry a therapist, just because the one you tried didnt work it doesnt mean they are all not going to (trust me Ive seen a few, some good some terrible).
Once you have found one that actually is right for you then they will be able to tell you exactly what kind of depression you have, if its caused by anything in your past that can be overcome or if it is the kind of depression that seems to have no cause.
So PLEASE try another therapist, trust me, and if they try to put you on any medication then make sure that this is the right move for you.
And remember that you are not alone.
