I'm 15 and VERY nearsighted..am i almost blind?
right now, my eye grade's about 7.00 and i'm only fifteen. i'm worried that it might get really worse before i can have a laser treatment, or that i might be one of those who can't be treated anymore (too young to tell as of now)...

what eye grade is considered blind?

You won't become blind, you might just have to rely on glasses all the time, which is pretty not bad because they're back in fashion

For some reason progressive myopia really climbs when you are young, and usually levels out in late teens or early 20s. I can think of many people I know who have gone through this, and no one has ended up blind, so I wouldn't worry. I know it can be a little disturbing to always be told you need a higher correction, but at 15, that where there is a lot of climb.

Blindness is technically associated with not being able to able to see and there is little that contacts/glasses could do to enable you see clearly. If you can see well with your glasses/contacts, you're not even close to being blind.

Legally blind is 20/200 in the best eye, with the best correction (including contacts/glasses). There is no specific eye correction that can be associated with blindness. I wear -19.75 glasses and I can still see about 20/30 - not even close to being blind.

While -7 can be considered "high myopia" (nearsightedness), about 30% of nearsighted people are over -6 (or about 1 in 3 people) - so it's not that uncommon.

You won't become blind in the true sense of the word. 20/200 or less in the better eye with best correction is considered legally blind. You would be able to find out what your vision is without glasses by asking your doctor. You won't really be able to get corrective surgery until you are about 20 or so. If you haven't yet looked into contacts, now would be the time. You are at the age when most doctors give the ok for them.

Blindness depends on whether you can see with correction. If you wear glasses that give you good vision, then you are not 'blind'. However, if your sight is not good, even with correction, then there is a level below which you cannot function. Legal blindness is probably about + or - 10.00 If your correcton level is + or - 7.00 this is high hyperopia / myopia. ( Are you plus or minus ?) You cannot function properly and will have great difficulty seeing but you are not yet blind even without correction. Visual defects are many and varied, but you will be told if you are 'blind' and I doubt that this is yet the case ! Your sight may deteriorate up to age 20-25 then normally stabilises.
Your family history is the single most important factor in determining your optical future.
