this is such a horrible problem with cancer victims. my husband had the same problem and when he did have one he said it was like trying to pass a baseball with spikes. a friend recommended a laxative called dulcolax liquid form, with a cup of hot coffee, the first one was a doozy but after that it was heavenly relief..then after he look a dose every nite with hot coffee and never had the problem again. |

Take her to the ER! This is not something that can wait any longer! It's very toxic that she hasn't eliminated all that waste for 3 weeks. |

If you take your mother to the doctor, he can tell you what to do. Usually cancer pts take high doses of narcotic pain relievers and this causes severe constipation.
You mother probably needs an examination to make sure she is not obstructed related to her cancer.
If she is given permission from her doctor to take a laxative, I usually reccomend Fleets phospha soda 45cc in juice or water. If this doesnt clear her out nothing will . It can be purchased over the counter at Walmart or your local drug store.
Please dont give this to her unless her physician says it is ok as it can cause severe diarrhea and if she is obstructed may cause her misery. |

Take her to the Doctor. Many pain medications can cause constipation. Senna is routinely prescribed for patients on a lot of pain medications. |

Hi Dawn,,,,Three weeks is a very long time for no bowel movement. I wouldnt wait longer than three days as this could be a sign of an impaction. If taking prune juice and melting a pat of butter warming it up, a fleets enema. You may wish to try digital stem. I think after three weeks this could be a bad sign. She should go to the dr because she may have an impaction death can occur if not taken care of. She may have that obstruction I was telling you about. |

She probably has an impaction, the nurse will have to loosen and remove it by hand to give her relief. Pain medicine especially morphine causes your bowels and all the muscles to slow & some times paralyzes them. My heart goes to her, you and your family! I had a very similar situation with my grandmother some years ago. she had Pancreatic cancer and it spread rapidly into every organ. It is so hard to watch someone you love die. Probably the hardeset thing you'll have to do!!!!!!! |

The other responders have given you good advice. Your mother is probably suffering from fecal impaction and must go to a doctor to have it removed. No amount of laxatives is going to remove the impaction. Her condition is only going to get worse. Get her in to a doctor and do it now. Don't let her suffer needlessly. Good luck to all of you and please, get her to a doctor. |
