Heart rate changing several times in a minute?
My heart rate varies a lot in a short amount of time with no precipitating activity. For instance, in the last couple of minutes, my heart rate has gone from around 80 to 60 to 100 to 70. And I am just laying here. I think it is like the normal variation that occurs with breathing, only amplified. If I take a deep breath and exhale, for example, I can drop my heart rate about 30bpm. Has anyone experienced or heard of this?

Dr. VIKAS
Heart rate indeed changes with respiration NORMALLY (increases when you inhale and decreases when you exhale--) This is known as "sinus arrhythmia". But the variation in heart rate is very small for most of the people(barely perceptible by a layman if he checks a normal pulse). This variation is increased (sometimes MARKEDLY) in professional ATHLETES or those doing heavy workouts regularly. BUT this normal variation in heart rate remains within normal range of 60- 100/ min The only other possibility where this drop in heart rate can exist if someone practices YOGA(a different way of exercise practiced in ancient INDIA, now again regaining popularity) IF YOU ARE NOT ATHLETE AND ALSO NOT A YOGA EXPERT, YOU NEED CARDIOLOGY CONSULTATION AND AT LEAST AN ECG. OTHER POSSIBILITY-- check your pulse carefully, IS IT REALLY RELATED TO RESPIRATION???? I mean to say, do you find pulse is sometimes very fast or normal and immediately at the same time slow or with MISSED BEATS and this change not related to inhalation or exhalation. IF YES RUSH TO DOCTOR OR if you have dizziness, palpitation, sleeplessness, breathlessness, chest pain or heart disease (specially of rhythm) in one of your first blood relatives THEN ALSO GO TO SEE A DOCTOR AT LEAST GET AN ECG DONE AND CHECKED. hope I helped kindly rate this
