Does a BG reading of 185 mean I have diabetes?
Does a BG reading of 185 mean I have diabetes? I am 15 and the check was done in the middle of rock climbing. I might have been eating a few pieces of halloween candy (like literally 2 or 3 fun sized kit kats) but not much because I don't like sweets... I don't have to go to the bathroom excesively, but I do have some shakiness, am easily irritated, feel generally sick after eating for about an hour, and feel light headed a lot :( Also, could this be food allergies instead of diabetes? That's what my mom seems to think, but it happens almost everytime I eat! (and sometimes when I don't eat for a long time). *One thing I know I am NOT allergic to is dairy. And the eating was about an hour or two before the test. Ok more detailes, I am not overweight, I am 5'4" and 110lbs. I excercise a LOT. (running cross country) and I eat healthy foods all the time because my mom is a health nut. I also almost never eat candy, I really don't enjoy sweets. I eat them 2x a year-- easter and halloween.

I think this is a duplicate post.

As I said when answering your other question, even non-diabetics spike occasionally after carb-laden foods, BUT a glucose tolerance test and fasting bloodwork (including a1c) can help diagnose or rule out diabetes.

Without more specifics about your diet and lifestyle, NO ONE can make that decision. ONE high reading does NOT indicate diabetes. a NORMAL person will have a high reading once in a while. Here is how diabetes is diagnosed, based on Blood Glucose reading ALONE: "If two or more fasting readings are about 130, then Diabetes Mellitus should be considered" 1) Your reading MUST be taken when fasting for 8-10 hours. First thing in the morning is the ideal time. 2) The reading MUST be taken at the correct times. RANDOM readings (such as what you did) are meaningless. 3) ONLY a doctor is qualified to determine if you are diabetic or not. He may need other tests (A1C test or Glucose Tolerance Test) in order to make an informed decision. If there is ANY question in your mind, then you MUST see a doctor. There is NO alternative -- see the doctor.
