What can an allergist do for me; and what is it going to cost?
Spring is here, and yesterday I started sneezing. I'm thinking about investing a few hours looking into allergists. But, before I do, what's the bottom line... I mean: What can an allergist do for me; and what is it going to cost?

It totally depends on your health insurance, assuming you have it. Check with your plan for what is covered and whether there are in-network allergists. An allergist can test you to pinpoint exactly what you are allergic to. However, if you just want to try a prescription, go to your primary care MD. You will probably get an appt faster than with a specialist. You can try some over-the-counter meds like Zyrtec and Claritin. They work for some people. Not for me, though. I have had great success with Allegra (also sold as fexofenadine in the generic version). I swear by the stuff. Good luck.
