An optometrist is a licensed professional who practices optometry. This type of doctor can prescribe eyeglasses but usully does not deal with diseases of the eyes.

An ophthalmologist, on the other hand, is a doctor of medicine (M.D.) who specializes in ophthalmology. Opthalmology is the branch of medical science dealing with the anatomy, functions, and diseases of the eye.

Technically an Opthalmologist, I think....

But we do have Optricians who perform a sort of half-way service between the various levels of eye-care, at least here in the UK!

Hope this Helps!

An optometrist tests your visual acuity. An opthamologist is more specialized and deals with all diseases ,injuries etc of the eye.

There are basically three types of eye doctors. The first is the Optometrist, he examines the eyes for the need of treatment of diseased eyes and mostly for the prescribing of glasses or contacts. The Optician makes the glasses from the Optometrists prescriptions. Then there is the Ophthalmologist, he studies the diseases of the eyes and performs surgical procedures. Hope this has helped you.

An Ophthamologist is an MD specializing in 'eyes'. An Optometrist (OD) deals with most of the same eye problems and is allowed to prescribe certain eye medications. Do not confuse an OD with a DO as the latter is a Doctor of Osteopathy and there are DOs specializing in Ophthamology.

Somebody who corrects vision problems through contacts or eye glasses is called an optician.

Somebody who can do those things, but also diagnose and treat diseases and conditions of the eye is called an opthamologist.

An Ophthalmologist (Greek - Ophthalmos = eye, Logos = study, knowledge).

Opticians and Optometrists (Greek - Optikos = vision; metros = measure) are just experts in measuring eyesight for weakness (astigmatism, myopia etc), though optometrists can also test for eg glaucoma. Ophthalmologists are full-blown doctors who treat and repair damaged eyes.
