Why do I have no passion for life? I'm not yet 23!!!?
I'm a primary school teacher and I used to be very enthusiastic about my job. I loved teaching and kids, and the latter liked me very much, too. Now, I feel kinda aimless. It's not my job.......I really like what I'm doing. It's just that, I've lost all passion for life altogether. I don't see a point in going out with friends, or even dressing up. I don't feel like calling anyone either. I feel depressed. My family is partly to blame, too. They aren't doing very well financially, and when I try to have fun I'm afraid that I'll look selfish.
I cry all the time. I just don't know what to do. And, yes, I pray. When I pray, I realize that I'm better off than most others and have a lot of be grateful about, but then I cry.

Try a Yahoo search for depression + causes + treatment (OR cures OR remedies) and see what you get.

Depression runs in my family, so it's easy for me to figure when someone is really in a rut or not.

You probably are depressed, but you have a right. Because you are a primary school teacher and love kids, you are automatically a compassionate person and you take responsibility and feel guilty about things that you shouldn't.

This is perfectly normal, but if you really want to feel better and get that passion back in your life, you have to work to make some changes, and trust me, it WILL be worth it.

If you don't exercise, that is the number one thing you should do. I know it's a pain, I'm overweight myself and loooove being lazy, but when I feel like staying in bed all day with a box of tissues, I fight myself all the way to the gym, but when I sweat out alll of those stupid thoughts and anger, the endorphins kick me back into shape and you will feel accomplished. It will make you feel better about eating healthy too. Skip McD's for Togo's or Subway instead. Buy yourself a cookie there if you want to feed your sweet tooth, no guilt, think about how much more fat was in that big mac compared to the cookie :]

Another thing you could do is go do what i like to call "retail therapy." You don't have to go to the mall and splurge a bunch of cash, but the next time you go to the grocery store or anything like that, buy a few extra things that you normally wouldn't buy. Buy a few nailpolish colors for yourself, or grab some chocolate bars or some donuts for the morning. My favorite is to get a manicure or a pedicure :]

Lastly, do not take medication, you do not need it. It may sound like an easy alternative, but trust me, it will just train your mind to believe that you are depressed and need the pills. It's a pharmaceutical plan to make money. You KNOW you used to feel good and happy all the time, and there is no reason you cannot get to that place again.

Put yourself first for a few days or a few weeks. Soon you'll feel like calling your friend to get a pedicure with you, and you'll help your family ENOUGH so that you can fully help yourself.

Good luck and look forward to better times :]

That's an incredibly detailed question for this place, but the suggestions so far seem pretty good advice, in their varied fields.

I work at a middle school, not as a teacher, but in the workroom, handling supplies and books for the school. And I hear it ALL from the teachers. They really do enjoy teaching, but get incredibly frustrated because the kids don't care. A friend recently began teaching at a military school, where discipline really isn't a problem, but the kids aren't motivated any better there than any other school. Modern kids just have too much demand for their attentions, so going to school is boring.

I myself have never had any passions in my life, really strong and demanding passions. Some of us are just happy or content to be "normal" in life. I don't climb mountains, wind surf, roller blade, visit ancient archeological sites, learn to hang glide. But I do enjoy the few things I have in my life.

Are you just lonely, without a companion or truly good friends in your life? Or perhaps it is the difficulty of teaching today's kids which does get you down, I'm not sure how it is in elementary schools.

There may indeed be real physical problems causing this.
I'd suggest a good natural healing doctor, rather than a psychiatrist or someone who'll just give you a few pills to "make you feel better." Natural healing doctors deal more than just the physical side of the person, also including the spiritual and emotional.

It's not an easy answer. If there were, the pharmaceutical industry wouldn't have made billions off anti-depressants.

I'm heavily into middle age. Being a guy, at 55, I feel more like 65 or much older, because my body "went thru the change" into middle age. I found an herbal supplement called RENEWAL, which helps your body to make more of its own hgh (human growth hormone). It's a homeopathic mixture in spray bottles. It has been a god-send to me, because it helps my mental ability and stability, gives me greater energy, and also greatly grounds me emotionally. But that's what it does for me. It might not do much for you. But I suggest it to you. If you can't find it in any health food stores locally, then search the internet.

I wish you good luck on your journey.

You feel like you have no freedom. Psychological freedom, that is. Go and have fun. Do they need to know? You have to be true to yourself. Try not to let what others say affect you. They cannot make you happy. And yes, it takes courage.

Hard to answer here. Try reading Courage by Osho. Wonderful book!

Sounds like depression. You need to see a psychologist that will help you figure out what you need to get better.

For some people, things like excercise, meditation, prayer, diet, and time with friends are enough to pull them out of it and get them back on track. Try those things first and if they work for you, that is great!

However, if you have a serious, biochemical depression, the only thing that will work is professional help - drugs and therapy.

I have tried just about all of the usual suggestions for my depression and most of them actually make me feel worse - like I only have a certian amount of happiness available for the day and if I use it up all at once, I have none left for the rest of the day. For years I refused to take medication and just continued to feel awful no matter what I did. I finally gave in and accepted that I am just not OK without medication. I felt miserable and made everyone around me feel miserable too and that is not fair to my husband. I have found medication very helpful and I get no side effects or anything.

You are around the age that real, biochemical depression usually starts. Mine started at age 14 but that is young for it.
A psychologist can help determine if that is what is going on with you.

You have worth and value, and you are "needed".
Those kids are seeking answers, to be the best they can be. They may not always express it, but...
who will their pillars be?
Anchors?
In life?
Their foundation?

You are a mentor. Encourager. Giver. And...
you have a lot to give! Freely you have received, freely..
just give.

If you could only do one thing in your life, to give something to the good of the world, what would you do?
REGARDLESS of what others think and/or say. But only you and God say.

Even if only being a voice.
That will echo in the hearts of our future leaders and etc. (Your pupils).
Even if only a hug, that someone did'nt get at home. Even if a smile, that gives warmth and acceptance. Even if just being a fragrance, of something wonderful and true.
Evidence, substance, of the Father's love.

What gives you tears of joy?
Persue and surrender to it with all that you are!

Like you I also struggle with an inner grieving. But God showed me something.
That I have breath.
And bread and water.
And that I have...
>> HIM <<.
And...
that I having/knowing Him, via Jesus Christ, thus have EVERYthing I need.
And is currently teaching me to "just breathe".

And to be faithful.
To Him.
By faith.
And to...
follow through.
Arg!
And use self discipline?
Eeeek!

All I know is we have to find that 1 thing, and be faithful to it.

I don't know if you have a blog, but ever thought of creating one? Your own little place to just be you, vent, encourage others, etc.?

Or encourage others by like what I'm doing as I type. Replying to Yahoo Answer's questions, just encouraging people, in truth, in love.

Feel da love?
Hehe.

God bless.

-DC-

PS. One thing I've been thinking on lately, is by faith, what would I do?
I live by faith. But from here forward, and regarding my plans, goals, desires, etc., but especially in regard to my place, calling, mission in life, what do I step forward on,...
by faith?

Firstly, prayer works wonders, don't change that! Having suffered from depression myself for YEARS if it is a chemical imbalance...and a Dr or therapist can make that determination...medicine and therapy may be the best solutions. Neither solution is immediate, but definitely helps! Having a therapist is not some miracle solution, but having someone you can talk to about the guilt concerning your family, any feelings you have about your profession and the kids you work with, your sense of lonliness...it helps, gradually, but surely, it helps...especially the RIGHT therapist...pray that the Lord will help you find the right one, and he will.
A Dr recently told me that 30-45 minutes of just brisk walking a day is the equivalent of being on the antidepressant Zoloft. Exercise raises all kinds of brain chemicals that make us feel better, fight off pain, not to mention helps raise our self-esteem...and gets us out of the house. Begin with yoga and work into something more.
Meditation helps too. Even though your in the helping profession volunteering can do wonders as well.
Begin your day by praying, and firstly counting the blessings you have...I do it on my way to work...I sacrifice my time listening the the radio or music, and pray and thank God for all my blessings and ask for strength both physically and emotionally to make it through the day, through each moment...and remind yourself that there is nothing that you can't do.
All this is much easier said than done I know...and as I said meds may be a valid solution, but I would try working out and other things before you begin the cycle of meds. But some people, myself included, have no choice...or have yet to find a choice that works for me. Find a good counselor...and let that be your first step to finding a solution.
You will get thru this...there IS hope, prayer does work, and brighter days lie ahead of you sweetie! Hang in there! **hugs**

It's more depressing when your relatives use you for financial benefit.

All in all, we all need friends that relate to us. Sometimes when we hold them too tightly, it may suffocate them. What you're feeling is not uncommon. I'm going through the same thing myself.

In October 2002, I took prescription medication to ease my pain and depression but I had to stop. I had an allergic reaction with one of the medications because my lungs closed up and I became asphyxiated. I was taken to emergency in Stanford, Palo Alto, Ca. It was a horrible ordeal that I would not want to go through again.

The key right now is to excercise. That's what I do. When I sit on the jagged rocks near the beach in Kona, Hawaii I try to feel the sense of serenity. But sometimes it's hard and very difficult. I just keep trying.

Hang in there with me. You and I are not alone, even though we feel like we are. The trick is to breathe, eat right, and excercise.

Keep praying. Go and help somebody who really needs a helping hand. It will make you feel good. Like take somebody to their doctor's appointment or to the grocery store, etc. There's always somebody at church who needs a little help. Some times the secretary at church can call you if she hears of someone who needs help.

Sounds like me with out the crying. I wish I cried more. My opinion all that praying is not gonna help. Go exercise move your body. Go buy a new pair of shoes or something. Get into a knock down, nose breaking fight with a stranger make sure you are totally wasted first. Stop watching Opera, and all those stupid celb shows. Live alittle .........
