Remove Wet Wax from Infected Ears

This is for people who often experience serious ear infections or problems, and are desperate to get muck (not objects) out of their ear more regularly than by having it syringed by a doctor, so as to release pressure or pain. If the ear is kept clean and dry, infections should be far more manageable. Only use this tip if other (medical) methods are not working. Doctors usually do not recomend putting anything in the ear. Be very gentle!

Steps
  1. Rip off a piece of cotton wool, and pull gently at it until it is a thin, solid patch of cotton wool, about 3cmx3cm.
  2. Place tip of cotton bud on cotton wool patch, so that the end of the tip is approx in the middle of the patch. The cotton bud stick should be in the same direction as the strands of cotton wool.
  3. Twist cotton wool firmly onto cotton bud stick. Make sure the cotton wool is firmly secured onto cotton bud.
  4. Make sure cotton wool is firmly twisted all over, so that tiny particles of cotton wool will not come off in your ear.
  5. Hold the ear with one hand, with the other lean your wrist next to the face, for maximum steadiness of your hand, and very carefully dip the tip of the coton wool twist in your ear.
  6. Remove immediately, as soon as you can feel the twist has reached the wet wax. Do not keep pushing, in case you force wax further down. When you take the twist out, its tip will be covered with green liquid.
  7. Repeat with a clean twist each time, until your ears feel better. Always be careful and patient - if you are rough, you could easily rupture your ear drum. This method is more gentle than poking cotton buds down, but it reaches further down into the ear canal.

Tips
  • It is easier if someone else does this for you.
  • There is a knack to twisting the cotton wool so that it is firmly secured to the stick, and will not come apart in the ear - if one doesn't work out right, don't risk it: pull it off the cotton bud stick, and start again with a fresh piece.
  • As you can see, this is not an easy or quick tip: this is for people who are desperate to get muck (not objects) out of their ear, and release pressure or pain.
  • This method should not be painful, nor should there be any blood involved! Stop immediately if such problems occur.

Warnings
  • No Dr will recommend this method to you, because there is a risk of rupturing the ear drum. However as a child I continuously had ear infections, until I used this method to be able to regularly drain out some of the mess/bacteria and keep free from reoccuring infection. Reoccuring infections in themselves can cause permanent ear damage, so weigh up the pros and cons.
