Is this the same classmate that has liver cancer and sits beside you? In your question before this one, you said your classmate had cancer and you were afraid you would catch it from her. Is this a new classmate? Your classmates sure do have a lot of liver problems for being so young. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you are quite safe to be sitting beside her. You won't catch some horrible disease from her whether she has cancer or liver inflammation. The word you want to say is hepatitis which simply means inflammation of the liver. There are lots and lots of reasons inflammation can occur. Just don't go making out with her or sharing needles if you want to be super safe, but I doubt that will happen between the two of you because it would be awkward to make out in class and share needles plus you are afraid of simply sitting by her let alone doing anything else.

She may of had mononucleosis. This would cause her liver to enlarge in size. Enlargement of the liver, due to inflammation is known as Hepatitis. Mononucleosis is a viral infection known as " Kissing" disease. That means it can be transmitted to others if they kiss you. It involves the glands and lymph nodes to swell up in the body, also. This usually doesn't involve having an operation, though. Here are a couple links about this, that you can click on: http://kidshealth.org/teen/infections/common/mononucleosis.html http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/infectious-mononucleosis-topic-overview "But what if you haven't kissed anyone? You can also get mononucleosis through other types of direct contact with saliva (spit) from someone infected with EBV, such as by sharing a drink, a toothbrush, an eating utensil, or even lip gloss, lipstick, or lip balm." However, if she has come back to school, the doctor would have released her to do this because she was well again. Not kissing her or touching her pencils is just a precaution now. She can talk to you and be around others.

HEPATITIS ...is inflammation of the liver. Nephritis...is inflammation of the kidney. ---- IT IS NOT DANGEROUS TO SIT BESIDES HER. You give conflicting information...you say liver inflammation...and then say kidney... Which is it? It sounds like it has to do with the liver, so I'll give you a quick run down on that...the same applies to kidneys (nephrogenic carcinomas...kidney cancers). ----- If she had hepatitis...that is not the same thing as Hepatic Carcinoma...cancer. You don't give any information on why she had an operation...or what operation she had. so I can't say if she has cancer or just inflammation. but... CANCER IS NOT CONTAGIOUS....YOU ARE PERFECTLY SAFE. There is nothing there that could be "transfered" to you. From what you write, I suspect she has a hepatitis virus infection. This can be passed on...fecal or digestive route...so proper sanitation and good hygeine are important. IT CAN NOT BE TRANSMITTED BY TOUCH OR BREATH... NOR BY ORAL ROUTE (SALIVA). If you are really concerned...try to find out what she has...and do a quick BING...you'll get all the information you need. hepatitis viruses...HAV (most likely), HEV, HFV....feco-oral rout of tramsmission. Other hep viruses...HBV, HCV, HDV, HGV...transmit via blood and blood products.

Please edit your question to be clear-- are you talking about kidney or liver inflammation? You said liver in title and kidney in first few sentences. She probably had Hepatitis-- perhaps Hepatitis A. The primary method of transmission is fecal-oral (e.g., finger in mouth after using toilet without washing hands in between). As long as you wash your hands and just be careful, you will be fine. People do usually recover completely from Hep A.
