Average eyeglass lens cost?
My glasses recently broke and I'm in dire need of new ones, but unfortunately I'm broke too. I was curious as to a general price range for lenses. My vision is extremely poor, as in the 20/200 range, and I have astigmatism. No bifocals necessary. Can anyone give me a range for a thin, scratch resistant, non-plastic lens? I need to save my pennies before I even bother going in for a new exam and lenses. In the meantime I have the joy of wearing 8 year old backup glasses.

It really depends on where you go. WalMart has frames starting at $39, and Costco and other warehouse clubs have bargain pricing. Target and LensCrafters both have $100 off sales right now, and private offices also have back to school specials. Actually, everybody has those, chains and private offices alike, so call around. Private offices are generally more expensive, but they might be able to take payments instead of requiring the full amount up front.
