i fell into my glass/ wood desk. It barely has stopped bleeding on half of it. There is one half that is very bloody and has been for llike 2 hours. The other half is just flat and white. I am also swollen around the cut and near my eye. I have been icing it and applying pressure to stop the bleeding. What does the white mean? It is not puss, its just a white patch. The blood is coming out of 2 single spots, not one big cut. Do I need stitches, even if its not deep, but has not stopped bleeding? Do I also need a Tetnus shot? Any extra details are great! You need to continue to apply direct pressure, without taking the bandage off for ten minutes straight. This should stop the bleeding. Don't look, don't let go, just hold it. Read this article for just the right information:

Yes, you probably need stitches if the wound is open. If you've had a tetanus shot it the last five years you don't need one. Get the bleeding controlled first. Read this article about stitches:

From your description it sounds like the white patch is just a piece of dead skin. Hard impacts cause nerve damage and dead skin. Usually when the impact was signifiant enough to result in dead skin and if it has been continually bleeding for over two hours, you definitely need stitches. Go to the ER and have them stitch you up. They will numb you up and fix your face in just few minutes. |
