Does getting a blood test hurt?
I'm 14 and im getting my first blood test tomorrow.I'm terrified of needles and im so cared. how badly does it hurt? what does it feel like? can i get it numbed before?

If you are just getting a blood test they will not numb it. Drink plenty of water before the test. That helps the veins be relaxed. Don't stress over the test. That makes the veins harder to enter as they are tight. It only takes a second to get into a vein. I have had times where I felt no pain and other times when it has hurt slightly. As said before it can be in the technique of the technician. If you are uncomfortable or feeling a lot of pain and ask for a different person to draw your blood.....Nursing Degree

Well, it mainly depends upon the skill of the person drawing the blood. If you get someone who is really good and smooth about it then while you will feel a slight pain when the needle goes in, after that it shouldn't hurt. Now if you get someone not skilled at it they could possibly have to poke multiple times or move the needle around in there. Now that hurts, but truly, there are worse things. The main thing is that if you get someone like this, if they can't get it on the first time or two get your mom/parent to demand someone more skilled perform the test. They DO have a numbing agent that they can apply to your skin beforehand that will numb it. They typically use this for little kids but hey, if you need it then ask or get your parent to ask. As the others said, don't look and don't tense up. Something I was told by a lady drawing my blood was to drink a LOT of water/fluids the day before and they day of if it is allowed because that will help your veins to "plump up" and make them easier to hit on the first try. Good luck!

It only hurts a tiny bit, you feel feel a tiny scratch on your skin as the needle goes in. As long as you don't watch them doing it you won't even notice it. I'm not sure about the numbing thing, I live in UK and I didn't get my arm numbed beforehand but no idea about other countries. HTH

It doesn't really hurt, there's a sharp, stabbing sensation, there may be some topical numbing agent they can apply if you ask for it, don't look at it, and relax - don't tense up, or it WILL hurt.

depends on how scared of needles you are. don't watch them do it
