is my albuterol making my bronchitis worse?
I just got diagnosed with bronchitis my doctor gave me a Zpack, cough syrup with codiene to use at night and an albuterol inhaler. I have been using the inhaler but after i use it my cough gets much worse and wet sounding and I sound like I am weezing. is this because the inhaler isnt working or is that i have so much blocked up in my lungs that the inhlaer is just breaking down all the mucus and stuff which is why it is sounding worse?

Have you ever used an inhaler before? If not, you need to blow all your air out slowly. Put the inhaler in your mouth and as you take a slow breath in, squeeze the inhaler. Hold your breath to the count of 4 if you can, then exhale. If you were told to take 2 puffs, wait a few minutes before you take the second puff. This method will help you get the medication into your lungs. You may have been just getting the medicine just in the back of your throat. Albuterol is a medicine that dialates, or opens, your airways, allowing you to breathe easier. If taking your inhaler this way doesn't help, and you continue to have difficulty, you need to contact your doctor again. You mentioned that your breathing sounds 'wet'. Do you notice any swelling or fluid retention in your body? If this is the case, you need to call your doctor and let him know this soon. While you're getting over this infection, if you prop yourself up a little bit while you rest, this will help. Also, if when you're having trouble and you're wheezing, purse your lips like you're going to whistle while you're exhaling, and try to exhale twice as long as your inhale. This 'pursed lip' technique actually causes back pressure in your airways, keeping them open a little bit longer for you. I hope I've said something that will help you!
