Can acid reflux cause a anxiety attack or a panic attack?
Please tell me the quickest way to get over a anxiety attack.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

Well, I have really horrible anxiety.. The best way is xanex, but a therapist will tell you this:

"Repeat over and over out loud, "These are bad thoughts, they WILL go away" I know it sounds stupid. But it works. Acid reflux can be so painful, that you might be getting anxious just thinking about the pain from a future attack. Drink 1/2 milk and 1/2 7up it's good...trust me. or get on some prilosec or nexium. But get to the root of why you are having anxiety in the first place. Is it the fear of heartburn??

Yes, you think you are choking. Go to your doctor for new meds for reflux,to keep it under control.

Yes, it can. My husband suffers from this and wakes up in the middle of the night like this.
There are deep breathing techniques that can help you through these episodes. They are really simple and you can find them below.

Acid reflux isn't a panic attack, but due to the pain and anxiety involved, can cause a panic attack. To get rid of one, find a calm place, dimly lit, and imagine a candle in front of you, now take a deep breath through your nose and out your mouth. blow like you are blowing through a straw, but slow so you don't blow out the candle. You can also try taking a shower, and turning the water from a normal temperature to as cold as it gets very quickly. This worked for a friend of mine.

Hey, How are you?

I'm almost a doctor...

Acid reflux (GERD) cannot cause an anxiety or panic attack. Some people genetically are more prone to get these attacks. Two ways to reduce them are to:

- Avoid the triggers that cause the panic attacks (irritating people) or to have calming people support you when ya have to face certain triggers (i.e. tests).

- If it goes on for months, and praying, avoiding triggers, and family/friends' support doesn't work, go to a psychiatrist, explain what happens, and they have EXCELLENT medications that will help.
