Why do knots hurt so much?

Rating
If you are referring to knots in the muscle then you are referring to the reduction in blood flow to that area, it is known as ischemia. The reduction in blood flow leads to decreased oxygen supplies (needed for muscle metabolism to produce glucose for energy) which is interpreted in the brain as a pain signal. The muscle is basically starving to death very slowly.
