I am in so much pain! Should I quit my job?
I have worked retail jobs, and I understand that back pain is normal when you're just starting out. But this is completely unacceptable. I am in the WORST pain I have ever been in my life, and it won't go away! It's in my shoulders, collarbone...and what's even more puzzling is that I have done plenty of strength training and lifting FAR more intense than this job. To paint the picture a little bit better: Every day, I have to wake up an hour earlier than normal because it takes me that long to get out of bed. After a 30 pound weight loss, I have gained almost 20 pounds back (since my normal swiss-ball, dumbell, and cardio exercises aren't even an option anymore). I wake up in the middle of the night. I have been to two massage therapists--not like Swedish massage therapy, I mean I went in for *serious* intensive massage therapy that cost me hundreds of dollars--that worked beautifully! And all it took was one shift--ONE--for all the pain to come back. It doesn't matter how I stand, or anything. This has been going on for months, and I can't take it anymore. I'm at the point where I could care less if I sleep through work tomorrow and get fired. Should I quit my job??

Agree 100% with Douglas B. I had major back surgery 22 years ago and back had not bothered me until about 11 months ago. Got it settled down and 2 weeks ago had lots of major discomfort. Being a nurse I understood it was not a disc problem and it had to be a pulled muscle and I treated it as such.

I used to have the same problem, until I raised it to my boss, so my boss gave us rotating scheds for afternoon breaks to have a 30 sleep in the afternoon at our break room. the similar body pains went away.

Hi Marilyn, sounds to me you have osteo arthritis and maybe a disc protrusion .. A bone scan would give you a very clear picture of what is going on I know as I have osteo arthritis in several areas of my spine with disc protrusions and disc fragments in the spinal column .. And yes I think you should be kinder to yourself and quit and find something less taxing on your spine.. Anti - inflammatory drugs help but aren't good for long time use which is why moderation is a better alternative treatment .. Good luck with it

Not yet, at least not until you try this out. Your back pain is caused by pinched muscles there. That builds up an acid in the muscles which is where the pain comes from. When you got the message they pushed the acid out of the muscles so you weren't feeling any pain. The one thing they didn't do and couldn't do was free up the muscles for until they are freed up you are going to remain in pain, or go back to it shortly after doing something like the messages. Here's how to free up the muscles so they won't go back into pain and let you get a good nights sleep in the process: Back: (do from a sitting position) Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed. Repeat it if necessary.
