how long does it take for the medicine for hypothyroidism to start helping my symptoms?? achy joints tired etc
Also, how about weight gain. Is it normal to gain weight once you have been put on medication. How long before I can expect weight loss?

It may take a while. I've been on a high dose of medication for a long time and I still have symptoms. If you get on the right dose of medication, within a month you should notice a difference. You should have a blood test (TSH) every 6-12 months so if your level changes they can up the dose. Also, the medication won't make the weight come off, I think what happens is that you get on a dose that helps you not feel so tired and sluggish all the time and you start getting energy again, which will lead to weight loss.

thyroid meds are slow acting and they usually take a couple months to balance out your tsh level. you will usually start losing wait after this...don't count on a huge weight loss, though.

go to yahoo-Groups and then type in thyroid, the first group on the list is the one you want to join, post your last test results, get advice, and generally they can help you.
