Looks like you have the infamous "sudden hearing loss" which means they do not have any ideal what happen but they do find that a treatment of steroids may be beneficial in restoring hearing. So if any one gets sudden hearing loss get it seen TODAY. But the treatment is still a last straw attempt and in some cases the hearing does not come back. The E.N.T. would look for obvious causes therefore he/she can prescribe the proper treatment. At this point being in a early state there is a 50/50 chance so be prepared to accept a hearing loss. Also understand that it is a upsetting thing and that it will take you time to adjust, the mind and body go through a mourning period. Do realize that you have one good ear, in a lot of cases a hearing aid can help the poorer ear. So work with your E.N.T. and see what happens. Also it it usually in most cases the good ear is not effected. So relax, do de-stressing procedures like breathing and excercise, sleep and good diets

If you had a mild to moderate hearing loss in the mid frequencies (1,000-2,000Hz), you hearing will likely come back on its own within two weeks-whether you have any treatment or not. In other words, current treatments don't work and are unnecessary. If your hearing loss was profound (greater than 90 dB), you only have a 25% chance of getting your hearing back, regardless of the treatment you receive. If your hearing loss was less than 90 dB and not limited to the mid-frequencies, then immediate treatment with steroids (within 10 days) has a 78% chance of restoring your hearing (or at least some of it). The only treatment that has proved effective (supported by double-blind trials) is corticosteroid treatment-usually Prednisone or Prednisolone. This generally works if you have a hearing loss in only one ear, your loss is a moderate loss across many frequencies and you are younger than 40.
