Spinal fusion removal - good or bad idea?
I had spinal fusion about 5 and a half years ago. My curve of my spine at the time was about 60 degrees, and now it being less than 10 degrees. I have my entire spine fused from L3 to, i can't remember the number exactly, but it's a 17" scar. I've been having pain in my back, specifically the upper right area (kinda where the shoulder blade is). I believe this was caused by a bolt that sticks out of my skin, but i could possible be wrong, unsure of what the pain is caused by. I understand that having the bars removed is not going to take away all the pain; however, I'm just curious as to those who have experienced this, what type of pain they have after wards, and if it's even worth it.

I have had spinal fusion, but never this problem. I think that it might be a good idea since it is causing you complications. I suggest though to see your old surgeon and get their opinion on it. Most likely, they will probably say to have it removed or to at least replace the bolt correctly.
