Achilles Tendon Pain: I highly recommend putting heel lifts or heel cups in all of your shoes. The idea is to elevate the heels which shortens the Achilles Tendon. Shortening the Achilles tendon's length will take the pressure off the inflamed tissue. This will allow for proper heeling time (1 to 2 weeks). Don't walk barefoot, even around the house. It's very easy to re-aggravate the inflamed tissue. Once the Achilles tendon pain starts to dissipate, you'll want to start stretching several times a day. Anything that stretches the calf muscles will also help take the tightness out of the Achilles tendon. Good Luck!

That depends on the extent of your injury. I strained both my tendons in March and went to the physio who did some massage on the tendon itself and the calf muscles. He also gave me some exercises to do which help to strengthen the tendons. This is essential as this is the sort of injury that is likely to reoccur unless you take care. If you google this injury, you will find a number of exercises which will help. The physio told me it can take between 3-6 months for the injury to heal and I have to say I have only started to feel less pain (in my calves especially) in the last week or so. The trick is to not to overdo things too quickly and allow the tendons to heal in their own time. More than likely you've injured yourself through overdoing running or skipping (either through picking up the pace too quickly or going too far) so perhaps take up cycling or swimming or some other form of exercise whilst you are healing so that you are not aggravating the tendon. Then when you do resume your normal exercise regime, be sure that you strengthen and stretch out the tendons and be careful that you only increase your pace and distance incrementally by no more than 10% each time. That's really important. My physio also said that this injury is quite common in people who over-pronate, ie you may notice either one or both of your ankles falls inwards a little more as you stand/walk/run and there are orthotics (inserts in your shoes) which you can get to correct this but you would need to be fitted professionally by shoe / foot specialists as they will be specific to each individual. It can take 7-10 days to a few weeks depending on severity. Keep it wrapped, try heat on it to help it relax and heal and use some ibuprofen
